step 4

Bring the needle through the next stitch on the back needle as if to knit, pull the yarn through, and leave it on the needle.

Repeat these 4 steps across the row until one stitch remains. Draw the thread through the last stitch, and WEAVE IN ENDS. Here’s an abbreviated version of the process:

Front knit off, front purl on, Back purl off, back knit on.

Knit

See K – Knit.

Knit across

See Acr – Across.

Knit(ted) cast-on

Also called a chain cast-on, this is a method of creating loops on the needle so you can start knitting. It can also be used to add stitches to existing knitting—for example, when adding new stitches for a buttonhole or a mitten thumb.

Make a SLIP KNOT and place it on one needle; hold this needle in your left hand. With an empty needle, knit into this stitch (see Step 1), but instead of slipping this stitch off the left-hand needle, pull the right-hand needle toward you to loosen up the newly-created stitch, and slip it onto the left-hand needle by following the course of the red arrow given in step 2 above—the left-hand needle goes up from underneath the new stitch so that the side of the loop that is closest to you becomes the back leg of the new stitch.

Continue adding stitches until you have the required number.
